Can a bike to replace your car if you’ve got kids?
The answer is an emphatic yes, but you’re going to need a good child seat. Our pick is the Thule Yepp Maxi.
We think the Thules are great, and as is evidenced by the heaps of Lug & Carrie bikes that have them, our customers agree. The Thule Yepp Maxi is one of our most useful and popular accessories for several reasons.
They are readily compatible with both the Tern GSD, which will easily hold 2 of seats, and the Tern HSD, which will hold 1.
Getting them on and off either of the Terns is easy, and can be accomplished in less than 2 minutes with a couple turns of the locking mechanism. But despite how quick it is to get them on, when locked in the seats are very secure, which our customers (and their kids) appreciate.
The Yepp Maxi seats sit such that they keep the weight low on the bike, which improves stability when kids are loaded up. They’re lightweight too – they don’t add a bunch of excess weight to your bike.
Plus they are durable, comfortable for the kids, and it is quick and easy to get your little ones in and out.
We’re often asked by parents whether the Thule will fit their child, and the related question about how you know when your child is ready to move into something different, like a cool Captain’s Chair
Officially Thule says that the Yepp Maxi seats are good for kids from ages 9 months and older, with a max recommended weight is 22kg. In our experience, every kid is different, and a lot depends on their age, height and weight.
If you’d like to ask a question about your child specifically, or about anything else related to child seats, send us an email and we’d be happy to help.
